Byzantium-christian incantation bowl, 5th-8th century A.D.

Enchanting bowls are very simple, small ceramic pieces. Their interior was covered with curses, in Aramaic, but also in Hebrew. These were normally written in a continuous spiral. Thus, evil spirits or demons were stopped by the curses and entangled by the labyrinthine plot traced by the written enchantments.
