Byzantine terracotta oil lamp, 400-800 A.D.

The skylights were lamps that were used since prehistoric times, they were fed with olive oil and had from one to a dozen wick. Some had handles, so they could be carried from one room to another, and they could also be carried by actors in the plays or by participants in ritual activities, especially funerary activities. The Phoenicians are going to popularize their use and thanks to trade they are going to be distributed all over the Mediterranean. More popular will be the Romans and Greeks who will be made to mold, and with various scenes, which for their economic price and interest used to be collectible.
