Description

This pelice features the profile of a female head on both sides, often identified as a maenad or a richly attired lady. The design uses the red-figure technique, where the natural colour of the clay stands out against the black-greyish slip of the background to highlight the facial features and hairstyle. This specific example is of Apulian origin (southern Italy) and belongs to the Magna Graecia tradition, where local artists adapted the Attic red-figure style.
