Zoomorphic handle showing a scene in which a panther with its mouth open is chasing what looks like a type of goat.
The origins of the Parthian Empire date back to the 3rd century BC when a nomadic people from the steppes of Asia created a vast empire in Iran and Mesopotamia, even challenging Greece and Rome. Their capital was in Ctesiphon (Iraq). Located on the eastern border of the Parthian Empire was the city of Hatra, a thriving commercial center and bulwark against Rome.
