A magnificent example of a ceramic transport amphora with a conical base, an inverted pear-shaped body, rounded shoulders tapering to a cylindrical neck, a high mouth, and a pair of handles curving from just below the rim to the top of the shoulder. The exterior of the vessel is almost completely covered with incrustations typical of having been submerged in deep water for countless years, although these accumulations give it an excellent appearance. Transport vessels such as this were not usually adorned with painted decorations or applied details, although some have stamped marks indicating the materials they contain.
