Egyptian bronze figure depicting “Neith”, Late Period, 26th-30th dinasty, 1500-332 B.C.

This bronze sculpture represents a female character in a walking attitude, with her left arm extended along the body and her right arm on her chest. She is dressed in a long, tight gown and wearing the red crown of Lower Egypt on her head.
She represents the Egyptian goddess Neith, the goddess of war and hunting, but also of wisdom, thus assimilating to the Greek deity Athena. It is a very ancient divinity that dates back to predynastic Egypt. It is usually represented wearing the crown of Lower Egypt, as in this sculpture, and accompanied by a bundle of arrows or a shield. In its animal form it can be represented as a fish or a bee.
